Clear Lam Wins Best of Show Award from Flexographic Technical Association (Elk Grove Village, Illinois) - 5/3/2010

The Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) held their annual awards dinner Sunday May 2, 2010, awarding Clear Lam Packaging, Inc. the highest honor for Wide Web Process Film-Best of Show. The award winning film was the Kaytee® Combo Bird Treats Wrapper exemplifying excellence in standardizing 200 line screen.

The FTA, founded in 1958 (of which Clear Lam has been a member since 1977) is the leading technical society focused on cutting edge flexographic printing.  The convention combines forums, networking and the technological advances of the Flexographic print industry as well as highlights the standards, training and guidelines provided by the FTA.

This year 600 entries from around the world competed in numerous categories.  The largest and most coveted of which is the Process Film Wide Web category with over 30% of all submissions.  Wide Web Process Film is the most stringent competition, requiring two sets of judges.  The overall consensus of each judging panel named Clear Lam’s submission in this category top honor with the 2010 Excellence in Flexography Process Film Best of Show.

Dan Dietrich (Polywest USA) a judge for the level of execution in the Wide Web category said, “Everyone talks about HD, eight- and 10-color extended gamut process printing, with high line screens, but it’s easier said than done.  This printer demonstrated consistent control over its print process while achieving a broad spectrum of color.” (Flexo Magazine, May 2010).

The submission utilized superior execution through the expanded gamut printing process known to Clear Lam as XG; allowing for excellence in the challenging 200lpi printing.

‘The most important thing [about the Kaytee® submission] was that it was run at 200lpi, and the many different expanded color gamut images across the web.  It has one of the best executions that I have ever seen.  The dots were outstanding.’ Jose Soler (Comexi), level of execution (Flexo Magazine, May 2010).

Also utilizing the intricate and highly impressive XG printing process was the Clear Lam Packaging Promotional Bag.  Submitted in the Self-Promotion category, the promotional bag was recognized by judges and showcased the color capabilities of XG as well as the high resolution detailed imagery.
